St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Lincoln Park

So often brides and grooms spend their wedding planning focusing on the Chicago wedding reception. The catering, the flowers, the band, and the special details tend to be the wedding planning focus. Of course as a Chicago wedding planner, Big City Bride loves all of these elements to a wedding. We love planning the most fun party you’ll ever throw and a beautiful celebration. However, it’s important to remember what is being celebrated – the vows, the commitment, and actual wedding ceremony!

Some brides dream of a Chicago outdoor wedding ceremony and some choose to have their Chicago wedding ceremony at their Chicago wedding venue. Big City Bride is a pro at helping with a room flip so you can use the same space twice. Wedding planners can deal with the details of ceremony set up with chairs and an altar, with an officiant and musicians.

Other brides want a Chicago church wedding ceremony and there are so many beautiful options! For Catholic ceremonies a Chicago wedding church is important and some churches are more flexible than others. Big City Bride loves St. Alphonsus Catholic Church weddings at 1429 West Wellington near Southport and Lincoln! Currently under construction on the outside, the inside is what matters to your wedding ceremony and it is great!

Imagine yourself walking down this long and dramatic aisle for your Chicago church wedding.

Here is the beautiful altar that your Chicago wedding photography will capture. It’s a great backdrop for your wedding vows.

And then the celebration begins as you say “I Do” and take your first walk together back down the aisle as husband and wife!

Meatloaf Bakery Chicago Food Truck

The word may be getting out that Big City Bride is the Chicago wedding planner who loves food trucks, but how could we not!? There’s something about food on wheels that makes people happy. Maybe it reminds us of when we were little and the ice cream truck would come through the neighborhood singing its happy song. Now if only these Chicago food trucks could sing a cheerful song to match the unique fun food they have inside.

This week the Chicago Meatloaf Bakery stopped by our office and shared some of their amazing savory treats. Following the popular Chicago wedding trend of cupcakes the Meatloaf Bakery has created delicious and adorable meatloaf cupcakes.

Here is the fun Meatloaf Bakery Chicago food truck! If this catches your eye on the road be sure to follow for a savory and filling meatloaf cupcake.

With unique flavors and toppings (from mashed potatoes to spaghetti to peppers on the vegetarian option) it’s a fun twist on your mom’s traditional meatloaf. They also have little “loafies” which is a mini meatloaf cupcake and perfect for a one bite appetizer.

From a Chicago wedding planner position, Big City Bride doesn’t only love these as a street side snack…but we love them as a savory opposition to a real Chicago cupcake bakery. Sticking with a cupcake theme could be fun, especially for a Chicago wedding shower. Having meatloaf cupcakes and then cupcake desserts could be really fun!

Time to Spring Forward!

Chicago wedding season is quickly approaching! The warm weather and sunshine is coming and Chicago wedding planner Big City Bride could not be happier! Spring means wedding bells will be ringing more often! We are so excited for the wonderful brides and grooms we’re planning with for this year. We are so excited for extended hours of light, for outdoor patios and restaurant seating on the streets, and for concerts in the park.

This Sunday the clocks spring forward and that means we’re well on our way into Spring and Summer! Since people hire Big City Bride to keep them on track and on time with everything wedding we thought we’d send a little reminder of the time change. Be sure to change your clocks this Sunday night.

Sentimental Spring Bridal Bouquets

Every Chicago wedding is so different…as they should be! The wedding planners at Big City Bride don’t plan “cookie cutter weddings” because every bride and groom are so unique that their weddings should reflect them. Each Chicago wedding should reflect a unique style, personalities and passions of the couple. It should honor and celebrate the people, places, or events that have made them who they are as individuals and as a couple.

That said…most Chicago brides embrace flowers and walk down the aisle with a wedding bouquet but by no means are they all the same! One way to make your Chicago bridal bouquet unique is to incorporate special meaning. These Big City Brides carried charms and lockets of grandmothers and loved ones. It’s a really special way to pay tribute and to keep them memory of deceased loved ones close to you for your Chicago wedding ceremony. Another bride wrapped her bouquet in the ribbon from her first communion veil to make her wedding bouquet that much more special. *Photos by Chicago wedding photographers: Riverbend Studio & Robyn Rachel Photography

This Big City Bride had her Chicago wedding bouquet wrapped with her grandfather’s tie! So simple but such a fun and meaningful pop of color. Chicago wedding planner Big City Bride loves that these small and meaningful details don’t cost a thing!

This Big City Bride did something stunning and very unique. To honor, celebrate and hold her mom close with her during the Chicago wedding ceremony, she entwined her rosary in this beautiful strand of orchids. *Photo by Chicago wedding photographer: Edenhurst Studio
Lastly, I saw this from Martha Stewart Weddings and had to share! How beautiful and fun are these wedding bouquets wrapped in scarfs? Whether it’s your great grandma’s vintage silk scarves or you’re gifting every bridesmaid with a beautiful new scarf … it’s such a fun pop of color! So romantic and soft and could be really sentimental!

Big City Bride wedding planner Susan Cordogan is quoted on the the first page of the Trend Forecast. “Couples are inviting food trucks to their wedding as a fun snack, either during cocktail hour or late-night.” We love the fun options found on the streets of Chicago these days and think it’s a fun way to surprise your guests!

Be sure to grab one of these inserts and keep it around! Come spring the Chicago wedding guide to shopping will be so fun to explore.

Girls Gifts – Ideas to Treat Your Bridesmaids!

It’s leap day and once every four years we get a gift of an extra day so today I’ll think about gifts! With the sun shining and spring around the corner, Chicago wedding season is quickly approaching. For all the spring Chicago brides wrapping up their wedding plans it’s time to focus on a few fun last details. Celebrating the women you’ve chosen to stand up with you for your Chicago wedding ceremony is one of those fun details. So on this gift of a day…let’s talk bridesmaids gifts!

BEAUTY: Chicago wedding planners help you plan your whole day… including bridal hair and makeup. Some brides decide they want to treat their bridesmaids to the gift of beauty and pay for these services. Some brides even want to gift their girls with the bridesmaids dresses! This is a very generous gift!

BLING: Something fun to do is surprise your girls with jewelry for your Chicago wedding. That way you can stylize their look a little more. Choose a different piece for each girl for an eclectic look… or a staple piece they will wear everyday.

Riverbend Studio took this Chicago wedding photo of a Big City Bride Chicago wedding where the bridesmaids wore matching bracelets. Bracelets can be worn with any dress style! If you choose un-matching bridesmaid dress styles then coordinated jewelry looks really nice! A Big City Bride found this Kate Spade bracelet which would become any girl’s staple because it’s a reminder she has a  “Best friend ever,” a “partner in crime,” you’re “peas in a pod,” “sidekicks,” “birds of a feather,” “two of a kind,” and “perfect pairs.”

COMFY: While you’re spending the morning getting pretty your girls could all looks fabulous in bridesmaids robes. Who knew robes were something you could love so much? With a collection like these at Plum Pretty Sugar Loungerie you can buy a customized set for your specific bridesmaids. These make your Chicago wedding photography so bright the morning of your wedding and they will love them for years to come.

GIRL STASH: Women love bags because we love to be prepared for anything! Big City Bride Chicago wedding planners always have our emergency bag of anything needed on wedding day but that doesn’t mean your bridesmaids wouldn’t love their own bag of fun goodies for the day. Give a fun handbag! 1154 Lill Studio is located on Armitage in Lincoln Park (just a few blocks from Big City Bride) and they make beautiful custom bags. Pick a style and fabric that each of your girls will love and not only will it be such a fun bridesmaids gift for them but it will be so much fun for you to design! A fun idea is to fill the bag with your favorite nail polish so all the girls can do nails the morning of your Chicago wedding. Add in a few bobby pins and a hair tie, and maybe even a lip gloss!

WARM & FUZZY: If you’re planning on a Chicago winter wedding and want to take your Chicago wedding photos around the city then maybe you want to prepare for a snow storm! Kim and Chad’s wedding at the Chicago wedding venue of Fulton’s On The River took place the day after a major Chicago snow storm but luckily the bridesmaids were ready with warm and cozy footwear! Kim wanted her girls to wear Uggs and have fun taking their photos with Belen at Geber + Scarpelli.

RELAX: After a Chicago wedding weekend of endless fun perhaps you know your bridesmaids will be in need of a little relaxation. A massage gift card is a really nice gift to treat your bridesmaids to a little peace while you’re off enjoying your honeymoon!

These are of course just a few fun ideas. Saying thank you in any way will mean the world to the women you’ve chosen to share your wedding day!

Eat and Laugh in Chicago

It’s the last Tuesday in February and I’m willing to bet that some Chicagoans are starting to get antsy for spring. We’ve been ridiculously lucky with a light Chicago winter but none the less the excitement grows for the beach and beer gardens and concerts that summers in Chicago are all about.

SO…to get us through this Tuesday and through the end of winter here are a few fun ideas to stay busy inside. Whether for unique Chicago date ideas or great Chicago bachelorette ideas, here are two fun things Chicago has to offer!

EAT – The first is for foodies…or foodie want-to-be’s! If you’re starting your week thinking about food and wondering what to make for dinner…perhaps you’re wishing you had the knowledge to cook up something special all on your own. Get creative and expand your kitchen knowledge with a cooking class. The Chopping Block offers classes everyday and you can choose from a demonstration class, hands on class, or wine class.

LAUGH – Without sun to cheer us up let’s laugh away the winter blues! If it’s time to get a good laugh try Second City Chicago comedy club, or one of the many other great options around the city. Second City is famous for finding some of the funniest names in showbiz and has shows 7 nights a week, with cocktails and dinner available during the show to make it a perfect night.

Whether you go on a date with your love or you grab your girls for a perfectly classy Chicago bachelorette party, these are two fun nights out! Big City Bride has lots of classy bachelorette party ideas (including some fun classes!) or for Chicago wedding showers or just great Chicago dates. We always love to help you enjoy this great city!
